The Hello, Goodbye Window is a story about a little girl who visits her grandparents.  She describes their house.  There is a window in the kitchen that she calls the Hello, Goodbye window.  She plays peek-a-boo and waves in it.  The girl describes the kitchen.  She talks about her grandfather, who plays harmonica.  At night, she looks out the window and tells the stars goodnight.  In the morning, she says "Good morning," to the world outside the window.  She eats breakfast, helps in the garden, rides her bike, and imagines things outside the window.  Her parents come to pick her up and they say goodbye through the window.

This book is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have seen.  I think that children in a kindergarten class would enjoy this book immensely.  I would read the story aloud to the students.  Then, we would have a grand conversation.  I would ask the students if they have special activities that they do when they visit their grandparents.  I would allow each student to share something.  Then,  I would give the students a piece of paper with a window on it.  I would have them draw something in the window.  It could be something that they see outside their grandparent's house or they can share an imaginary thought.  This activity would help the students develop their text-to-self comprehension.
